You gotta love the unrelenting forthrightness of Jem. Their videographer’s name? Video. Their choreographer’s name? Dance. Jem didn’t come to coddle your wussy dreams of character nuance, it came to deliver an absolutely raw to the bone, animated music television experience
if you like strawberry shortcake, please consider buying something from the original creator and designer, Muriel Fahrion’s website! she never got paid royalties for creating/designing strawberry shortcake and care bears to this day.
she went through incredibly tough times as an artist and went into debt after her husband died— until in 2019 she started being more public on social media about being the original creator of strawberry shortcake. despite everything, she still loves strawberry shortcake and spreads nothing but kindness and positivity on her instagram (everyday she always posts a daily video of her dancing in her kitchen :) she’s so full of joy) she inspires me so much as an artist! it would mean a lot to me if you supported her and bought something cute from her website!
Not Jem, but other 80s cartoons! I loved Care Bears as a little girl, so I felt like I should reblog this here to spread the word.
That pan of Ashley’s eyes in the video for “I Can See Me” is so creepy. I think the reason it freaks me out so much is the skin and hair are aggressively shaded but the eyes are completely left alone. A lot of extreme zooms in Jem are like that, they never render out the eye and half the time it makes things creepy.
I tried rendering Ashley’s eyes to make it less spooky and I think it kind of works, what do you guys think?
I FORGOT!!
Eyeshines and more pinks for the blood vessels!!! Only dead bodies are completely blue and gray!!!

Anyone else keep seeing “Neta Abadi” on YouTube and other sites as the artist of Jem songs?? Is she a voice actress that just slipped under my radar or something?
I think my favorite Jem song is probably How You Play The Game, it’s kind of cheesy but it just really catches my ear! I love the upbeat poppy vibe, the absolute 80s aesthetic, just…idk, it really gets to me in a good way. The sustained note on “hold your head up hiiiIIIGGGHHHH” really makes me wish I could sing lol.
How about everyone else out there? Favorite Jem songs, go!!
